Pray for your Pastors

Church Family,

I read last night about a sheriff in Alabama who used the leftover lunch money for the prisoners he was supposed to care for to buy a $750,000 beach house. Back in world war 2 the state began allowing the sheriffs to legally keep any money left over in the account used to feed the inmates. This sheriff legally used the money, but morally what he did was questionable at best and at worst should be prosecuted.

Ezekiel 34:7-10 “Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the LORD: 8As I live, declares the Lord GOD, surely because my sheep have become a prey, and my sheep have become food for all the wild beasts, since there was no shepherd, and because my shepherds have not searched for my sheep, but the shepherds have fed themselves, and have not fed my sheep, 9therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the LORD: 10Thus says the Lord GOD, Behold, I am against the shepherds, and I will require my sheep at their hand and put a stop to their feeding the sheep. No longer shall the shepherds feed themselves. I will rescue my sheep from their mouths, that they may not be food for them.

I’ve preached on this passage many times throughout my ministry. I do not take lightly the charge that God has given me as an undershepherd. Yet, I realize more and more each day that I need your prayers. There are so many areas that I need to grow and decrease that Christ might increase.

Can I kindly ask you today to pray for your church leaders, pastors, deacons, teachers, etc.? I thank you in advance.

How to pray?

Pray for my family. Since October 29th our family has been hit hard with health issues. In the last 2 weeks alone Natalie has had emergency surgery, Michael Brian has been fighting RSV, and now Aubree has it. Her temperature was 104.3 last night and this morning.

Pray that I will be a good husband and father. Pray that I will spend time in God’s word. Pray for that area of weakness that you see in my life. Pray that God will use me as He wishes.

Reminders:

  1. This Sunday please turn in any candy for the Easter Egg Hunt that is coming up March 24th from 11am to 1pm. Lunch will be served.
  2. Easter Services are as follows: 6:45 Sunrise Service, 7am Worship service inside, and last breakfast. There will be no more services that day.

Trees

Church Family,

I hope that you are having a great day so far. My Bible reading was cool this morning. I read how God described Pharaoh as being like a tree, but no ordinary tree. This tree was so tall, so big, and so fruitful that the trees from the garden of Eden envied it. Yet, the pride of the tree led to its fall and judgement.

Ezekiel 31:18 “Whom are you thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? You shall be brought down with the trees of Eden to the world below. You shall lie among the uncircumcised, with those who are slain by the sword. “This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, declares the Lord GOD.”

God had blessed Pharaoh and all of his people. So much that He and the people grew to be bigger, stronger, and more fruitful than any other in its time. This story hits too close to home. How often do we boast in who we are, what we can do, or what we have, rather than in God? When we lift ourselves above God in this life, God brings us down for eternity. The bible says that every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord. Many will do this for the first time when they get to heaven, but then it will be too late. They like Pharaoh will spend eternity below, in Hell. Turn to Jesus today. See that God is the one that blesses you. God gave you that strength, knowledge, money, power, etc.

Reminders:

  1. Candy is due this Sunday to help with the Easter Egg Hunt.
  2. The Egg Hunt is Saturday March 24th from 11-1.
  3. Money for the Women of Joy Conference is due this Sunday. See Blaire for details.
  4. Our Easter services are as follows: 6:45 Sunrise service in the cemetery, followed by the morning service in the Sanctuary, and last we will eat breakfast. These will be the only services we have that day.

Explicit Ezekiel

Church Family,

This maybe the most explicit chapter in all the Bible. It is one that I wanted to skip, but I fear that skipping it will further help sin to abound. “There is nothing new under sun,” Solomon tell us in Ecclesiastes. The lewd behavior and over stimulation of America is new to us, but not to God.

Ezekiel 23:36-37 The LORD said to me: “Son of man, will you judge Oholah (Samaria) and Oholibah (Jerusalem)? Declare to them their abominations. 37For they have committed adultery, and blood is on their hands. With their idols they have committed adultery, and they have even offered up to them for food the children whom they had borne to me.

When sexual immorality goes unchecked in a nation it’s only a matter of time before they begin to sacrifice their children for their pleasure. I read a terrifying article yesterday about an app that targets teens and young children in the hope of exposing them to the things described in Ezekiel 23.

Can I encourage you if you are struggling with immorality? The power of Christ’s blood is greater than your sin. God’s grace sufficient for your struggle. God gave you a church to help support you. Remember we are to decrease that He might increase. It’s not about being stronger, it’s about being weaker. May Christ be your strength.

Pray for our city, nation, and world.

Reminders:

  1. The Matthew and 3 Circles Evangelism classes will continue this Sunday night at 6pm.
  2. Join me in praying for opportunities to have gospel conversations with lost people today. Thanks in advance.
  3. The church needs candy for the Easter Egg Hunt by March 18th. The Egg Hunt is Saturday March 24th from 11-1. Please help support this outreach event.
  4. Be in prayer about presenting mission opportunities for our church this summer. We are looking for ideas for mission projects to carry out as a church sometime this Summer.

Don't Flinch

Church Family,

Praise God for you and with you! God is so good to us. During my morning reading I flashed back to my childhood. There are many names to the game and to be honest I never liked it, but we called it flinching. You make as if you’re going to hit someone and if they flinched, you were allowed to hit them in the arm twice. It tested the heart and fear of those playing.

Ezekiel 21:14-15a As for you, son of man, prophesy. Clap your hands and let the sword come down twice, yes, three times, the sword for those to be slain. It is the sword for the great slaughter, which surrounds them, 15that their hearts may melt, and many stumble

16b-17 wherever your face is directed. 17I also will clap my hands, and I will satisfy my fury; I the LORD have spoken.”

Ezekiel is being sent throughout the city clapping his hands. This was done in the hopes that people would ask what he was doing and repent. Sadly, they did not. I don’t know if you see it or not but there is a lot grace in these verses. You maybe reading this now and going through a similar situation. Whatever your sin is, God has warned you time and time again. The boss/spouse/cops/etc didn’t catch you this time, but they came close. In fact, in made you flinch. Your heart raced and now that it’s over, you are right back to your sin. God is not trying to play a game. He is trying to extend grace through His warnings. Grace that can cover and offer forgiveness for your sins. God knows what you are doing more than you know what you are doing and yet, God is stilling offering you time to repent. Will you repent today? Will you turn from your sin and turn to Jesus on this day? God hopes that you will flinch before it's too late.

For His Name's Sake

Church Family,

Words can not express how thankful I am for what God has done in and through our church over the last several weeks. Yesterday was a huge success, but probably not for the reasons we think. Yes, we have yet to receive a complaint. Yes, we delivered 1300 plates in 2 ½ hours. Yes, we plated 1300 in under 2 ½ hours and then went on to serve everything we had until we ran out.

Our success was how God brought our entire church together. We prayed, a lot. We served as a body and not a bunch of individuals. Many of you sacrificed your time, body, and money throughout this process. Our success was your courage and strength to trust that God is greater and able to provide above and beyond what we could imagine. We imagined 1000 plates, maybe 1200. 1530 plates later God showed up and showed out.

Can I plead with you to come this Sunday and share a time of praise as a church body? Share what God did at work, at home, and wherever you go to play this weekend. Let us offer the sacrifice of praise starting in Sunday school at 10am.

Let me end with the most powerful words of all, God’s word. God is speaking to the sinful leadership of Israel.

Ezekiel 20:9 & 12 But I acted for the sake of my name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations among whom they lived, in whose sight I made myself known to them in bringing them out of the land of Egypt.

12Moreover, I gave them my Sabbaths, as a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD who sanctifies them

1.Glory to God that He acts for His name’s sake and not based on who I am or what I’ve done! Egypt represents sin in this case. God, for His name’s sake has lead us out of Sin.

2.God gave us the Sabbath, a day of no work, to show that through resting in Him we are made holy and not through our works. Let that grab you today if you are struggling. It’s not how we dress, how well we “do” church, etc. It’s the power of God’s namesake that makes us like Christ. Glory to God!

Thank you to everyone that donated/offer up to God, their time, money to buy the supplies, money to buy chicken bog, and anyone else I haven’t mention specifically but made such a big difference.

Reminders:

  1. Bring your praise with you Sunday!
  2. Sunday night at 6pm we begin 2 new discipleship classes, Matthew continued by Shay in the youth room and 3 circles evangelism, turning everyday conversations into gospel conversation with Brian in the Sanctuary.
  3. Visitation this Monday, food at 5:30 and 6:15 going out.
  4. Tuesday Baptist Women’s Meeting hosted by Gail Bratcher at 6:30. We can provide directions at church Sunday.
